“Due to our deaf nature, we are branded as ignorant in many spheres in our community. Because we cannot hear, we cannot obtain vital information on either health or other issues prevailing within the community.”

— Musu Kenyeh Golley, Executive Director of DWAN-SL

HEAR & NOW
FUNDRAISER

The HEAR & NOW Fundraiser aims to provide 150 deaf Sierra Leonean girls and women with 150 sanitary kits and menstrual health education so that they can live healthy active lives.

Deaf Women Advocacy Network of Sierra Leone (DWAN-SL) works to implement educational and lifestyle programs for deaf girls in schools and communities in Sierra Leone.

Their mission is to provide sexual and reproductive health education, combat gender-based violence (GBV) and human trafficking in the deaf community, and establish viable options of support for deaf youth, especially young girls and women.

Part of DWAN-SL’s work also involves enrolling deaf kids in school, paying their school fees, and providing them with uniforms, books, and tools they need for success. They also support the families of deaf children by educating them in sign language and other necessary skills in raising a deaf child.
